Artifort and designers. How one and one makes three. For fifty years now, Artifort has provided major designers from home and abroad with the room to work on innovative designs. They forge together beauty, functionality and form to create a unity that is favourably received throughout the world. Already in the nineteen-thirties, the company Wagemans & Van Tuinen (that introduced the name Artifort in 1928) recognised the importance of producing their own designs. At the start, the founders of the company designed the new furniture themselves, embroidering on existing models. In 1936, the company employed a permanent designer in the shape of Theo Ruth. But from 1958, design occupied an even more prominent role in the policy of Artifort. Kho Liang Ie was appointed as aesthetic consultant and he brought in various international designers including Pierre Paulin and Geoffrey Harcourt. They were particularly responsible for taking the Artifort collection to the top segment of the international market in the nineteen-sixties.
